New technology to speed up housing repairs, reduce admin, and improve tenant service

BROXTOWE, UK – August 29, 2025

Broxtowe Borough Council has partnered with field service management (FSM) technology provider Totalmobile to modernise how it manages housing repairs, voids, and compliance jobs – marking a major step in improving services for tenants and making everyday operations run more efficiently.

Launching this September, the new digital platform will replace manual scheduling and spreadsheet-based voids management with dynamic job allocation, real-time reporting, and mobile access for frontline teams. It’s designed to reduce delays, give operatives time back, and free up back office staff to focus on more proactive service delivery. As part of the platform upgrade, the Council will also implement Totalmobile’s Asset Lifecycle Management solution. This will provide real-time compliance monitoring, greater visibility of works in progress, and assurance that both repairs and planned works are completed to the highest standards.

The decision to move to Totalmobile’s Field First platform was driven by the need to cut downtime, reduce missed appointments, and improve tenant communication. With around 3,250 repair jobs disrupted each year, due to weather or leave, the council wanted a trusted system that could reassign work quickly and keep services moving.

“We’d got to a point where too much time was being spent manually scheduling work and reacting to planning issues. The lack of a transparent or dynamic scheduling system was generating admin backlogs that required manual intervention – it was all eating into the time we should be spending communicating with and helping our tenants. This new platform is going to change that.”

– Andy Culshaw from Broxtowe Borough Council

The platform will also help speed up contractor appointment handling and remove delays linked to materials collection, giving both frontline and office-based staff more time to focus on the work that matters most.

“Broxtowe’s team are focused on making things work better, on the ground and behind the scenes. We’re helping them build a smarter, joined-up way of working that means less admin, fewer delays, and a better experience for tenants and staff alike.”

– Chris Hornung, Managing Director of Public Sector at Totalmobile

Broxtowe’s choice also reflects a wider adoption trend in the housing sector. Neighbouring Nottingham City Council recently moved to the same technology, with Totalmobile now working with nearly half of the UK’s top 50 housing providers. This move highlights a growing shift in local government towards scalable, real-time technology that helps organisations meet rising demand while improving the quality of service.
