United Infrastructure is a UK infrastructure delivery and engineering services business that supports the construction, maintenance, and operation of critical national infrastructure across sectors including water, energy, utilities, and environmental services.
The operation handles approximately 2,500 jobs per month, with engineers and planning activity organised regionally.
”"At the press of a button, we can go into a site and check that the statutory and legal requirements are complete. We run 20,000 sites across the UK, and those sites have to be fully compliant."
Becky GladwinProject Director – Maintenance
Managing field activity across a large, geographically dispersed telecoms estate created complexity for both engineers and planners.
Previously, engineers would need to access jobs, permits and risk assessments from different locations, while reporting faults relied on emails containing descriptions and large image files. This made information harder to manage and created a fragmented experience for frontline teams.
At the same time, United Infrastructure needed to maintain visibility of statutory and legal compliance across its 20,000-site estate and ensure engineers have access to current site, health and safety and hazard information.
Previously, jobs, permits and risk assessments were all in different places. With Totalmobile, it’s all in one central location. You can just do it from the app. It makes it easy because everything is in one central location.
United Infrastructure uses Totalmobile’s Field First platform to connect field and office operations through a single, integrated environment.
Through Totalmobile's solution, United Infrastructure achieved:

Jobs, permits, risk assessments and supporting information can be accessed through a single platform using Mobile Working and Job Management, replacing the previous need to work across multiple sources.
50% Increase in Daily Field Productivity
Activities increased from 2 to 3 per day within the first 90 days of the contract, equivalent to a 50% increase
”“In just 90 days, we’ve been able to increase efficiency from two to three activities per day.”

- Faster fault reporting from the field
Engineers can raise faults directly through the app, including the supporting information, rather than relying on email-based processes. - Instant visibility of site compliance
United Infrastructure can access a site and check whether statutory and legal requirements are complete, then provide the information to its client. - Right engineer, right job
Jobs are centrally scheduled, matched to appropriate skill sets and allocated to engineers to support getting work completed right first time. - More focused regional planning
Regional planners can concentrate on the work relevant to their engineers rather than being presented with the approximately 2,500 jobs handled nationally each month - Connected office and field teams
Totalmobile supports communication between office and field teams and reduces reliance on other communication channels previously used, including WhatsApp groups and Teams chats.
