Who Are They

Fife Council’s Care at Home service supports vulnerable people across the region, helping them live safer, healthier and more independent lives within their own homes.

The service operates across both large towns and rural communities, coordinating care staff, home care coordinators, lead officers, team managers and service managers to deliver essential support every day.

The team delivers care for approximately 1,300 service users and manages around 22,500 visits every week, making efficient workforce coordination critical to maintaining high-quality care.

Challenge

Delivering care services at this scale requires constant coordination between care teams, schedules and changing service user needs.

The team required:

  • A more effective way to manage daily visits, respond to emergencies and communicate schedule changes without relying on phone calls and manual processes.
  • Greater visibility of capacity, workforce availability and performance data to ensure support was reaching those most in need while maintaining continuity of care and meeting operational targets.
  • Ways to better support hospital discharge pathways by identifying available care capacity and helping people return home sooner with appropriate support in place.

It's imperative that we are able to support the wider partnership by making sure that we have the availability within the service to get people back home more.

The Solution

“They are able to see at a glance on their devices visits that day and when they are arriving, departing and their travel onwards.”

Fife Council uses Totalmobile to manage the scheduling and delivery of care visits across its Care at Home service.

Care workers can:

  • View their schedules directly from their mobile devices, including arrival times, departures and onward travel information.
  • With real-time updates, staff can immediately see changes to visits and respond more quickly when urgent situations arise. This reduces reliance on phone calls and creates a more connected and responsive service.
  • The platform’s reporting capabilities provide valuable operational insight, helping teams monitor performance, track service delivery and ensure resources are allocated effectively.

The system also supports workforce planning, helping the service maintain appropriate staffing levels and support compliance with safer staffing requirements.

Immediate changes and emergencies were getting dealt with right there and then.
